Close shave at Mangalore airport as Air India flight overshoots runway, gets stuck in run-off grass

A tragedy was averted at the Mangalore international airport as an Air India flight overshot the runway and was stopped just in time. All operations at the airport currently have been currently shut down.

A tragedy was averted at the Mangalore international airport as an Air India flight overshot the runway and was stopped just in time. All operations at the airport currently have been currently shut down.

The flight was coming in from Dubai and had 183 passengers on board. No injuries have been reported so far.

All the passengers have deboarded and are in the terminal. The plane will be towed soon.

A SpiceJet Dubai - Mangalore flight has been diverted to Bangalore owing to the incident.

The Air India Express Spokesperson has said that all passengers are safe and the aircraft is being checked by the engineers. The spokesperson added that an internal investigation has been ordered and that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been informed about the incident.

The last biggest air crash of a commercial plane had happened at Mangalore International Airport in 2010 which killed 158 people after an Air India Express flight had overshot while landing.
